CLAUDE MONET

White Water Lilies

1899

89x93, oil on canvas

Ж-3309

Fascinated by the Orient, Monet laid out some picturesque ponds with a Japanese bridge over them near his house in Giverny. This motif provided the basis for twelve works, including While Water Lilies from the Pushkin Museum collection. In this picture we can already see the tendency to change the easel painting into a decorative panel, a tendency that was developed in works produced by the artist during his final years.
